Legal Decisions and Social Ventures—an Update
Join us this Wednesday evening from 6 - 9 p.m. as experts share important legal considerations
related to the development of legal corporate structures: intellectual property, public-private partnerships, and PRIs.
If you're ready to start a social venture, and are doing your legal homework, this should be a useful Forum for you. If you have already launched a social venture, this Forum will open your eyes to new possibilities (and potential pitfalls)...
Also, Amy Pearl just returned from the SoCap conference in San Francisco and will share some highlights.
We're thrilled to announce our guest experts:
Alan Brickley, Counsel, First American Title Company
Alan has an MBA and J.D. and has over 40 years of experience as an attorney.
Alan was also involved in civic affairs as former Mayor of West Linn (1974-1982) and currently on the City Club of Portland where he has served on the Board of Governors and Chair of the Research Board. He is a frequent lecturer on real estate related issues for the Oregon State Bar, Oregon Law Institute, Mortgage Lending Education Board (2006 Educator of the Year) and other organizations. Alan will talk about how new kinds of partnerships between organizations can create opportunities for good.
Susan Bragdon, Director of Oregon Sustainability Experience (www.theoregonsustainabilityexperience.org)
Susan is a scientist and an attorney, focusing her considerable expertise on intellectual property rights, especially when that IP can make the world a better place. The issue of intellectual property rights is a critical topic, and without an understanding of the legal issues, promising innovations will never find their way into use for good. Susan will talk about what you should know.
Susan works on critical
global issues such as the conservation, use and management of biological diversity, creating compatibility with environment and agriculture, and promoting food security. She was the lawyer for the Secretariat for the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for the Convention on Biological Diversity providing legal advice to the working group handling intellectual property rights, transfer of technology including biotechnology and access to genetic resources. In Portland, Ms. Bragdon has served on the Board of the Hoyt Arboretum, the Nature Conservancy and is currently serving on the Board of the Illahee Lecture Series.
