October 2008 Forum Theme: Social Innovation

What does social innovation look like? Who are the innovators among us? What does it take to launch a good idea into action, and then keep it going? That’s what this forum is all about. With art exhibits, dialogue, expert advice, and plenty of real-life examples, Springboard Social Innovation Forum invites you to think. Ask questions.

Find your passion. Take action.

Keynote: Shane Endicott, Executive Director
Our United Villages & The ReBuilding Center
Why social change begins locally, and how we can make a difference.

Join us in welcoming Shane Endicott to our first ever Springboard Social Innovation Forum. Shane will share the story of Our United Villages, and how a community member with a passion could change a community.

Professional Services Workshops~

(1) Marketing and Communications. Peter Korchnak, Semiosis Communications
What is a marketing plan and why do you need one?

(2) Event Planning. Ericka Dickey, Social Enterprises
Project leaders need to be able to plan effective events. Get tips from a pro.

(3) Storytelling as Action. Suzie Boss, Journalist
Learn how to engage others with a story that grabs their interest and conveys your passion.

The Forum also offers:

  1. The “Toad in the Road” is a visual reminder that we often share the same obstacles, but when we work together we can overcome them.
  2. The Professional Services Sessions, (mini-workshops) are freely offered. Each focuses on providing needed information such as why write a marketing plan, how to hold effective events, or when you need a lawyer. These are held twice (repeated) during the forum, and last about 45 minutes.
  3. Cooperative Tables are places where one person launching an idea needs help from others. Claim a table, define the need, and ask for help. Anyone can sit and offer advice, feedback, ideas—a sort of community focus group—helping move ideas forward in real time in a focused way. Two tables are available, in two sessions.

The Hands-On Table is a place to visit with others while taking real action in a small visible way, pushing the results and goals of social change out into the community.

Chances are, you’ll have some good answers of your own. Tonight is your chance to talk about them with others in the community who share your concern. And if you have an idea ready to turn into action, you’ll find experts ready to help you get started.
