Legal Issues Part B - A Special Topics Forum
[NOTE DIFFERENT DATE]
We discussed the legal issues of intellectual property and partnerships at October's Forum. Attendees wanted more, so we are bringing in two guest speakers to help understand the legal structure of the L3C, as well as get more specific about protecting and understanding your intellectual property. Both important opportunities to learn how to move change forward.

Our Guest Speakers !

David S. D'Ascenzo, Intellectual Property Attorney,
DASCENZO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW, P.C.

“Intellectual Property - What Every Entreprenuer Should Know”
Every business, regardless of its funding or size, has intellectual property associated with it. This intellectual property ranges from a business’s name, to its logo, to its print and online materials, to its products and their brands, to the “secret sauce” that sets it apart from other businesses. Many aspects of this intellectual property may be protected without incurring significant expenses.  However, these intellectual property rights may be lost if certain steps are not taken to protect them. David will lead a discussion about important patent, trademark, and copyright considerations that businesses of any size and budget should be aware of.

Doug L. Batey, Stoel Rives LLP

“L3Cs – The Hope and the Reality”

Doug is the primary author of the firm's blog concerning the law of limited liability companies (www.llclawmonitor.com) and has become an expert on the L3C. Doug will discuss the formation and use of low-profit limited liability companies (L3Cs), how they are different from standard limited liability companies, why they are used, and how well they achieve their purposes. He will facilitate a discussion on the potential for L3Cs in Oregon and Washington.

Doug has advised a number of start-up and early stage entrepreneurial companies from business formation, seed round and venture capital financings, through successful growth and later acquisitions. Doug is a partner of Stoel Rives and works in the Seattle offices.
